Freshmen begin their time at 91̽�� with an essential class — Essentials of Christian Thought.

Dr. Abner Chou, 91̽��’s president, is one of the professors who regularly teaches the course. He says the class is intended to introduce students to the fundamentals of why and how to think biblically.

“It also allows students to understand the entire experience they are supposed to have at 91̽��,” Chou says.

The class is split into three segments — bibliology, hermeneutics, and worldview — which map out the curriculum of 91̽��. Bibliology is explored in theology classes, hermeneutics is practiced in the Bible survey classes, and worldview covers all of the general education and major classes, where students learn to apply the Word of God to every discipline.

Throughout the semester, students tackle a variety of writing assignments where they apply these principles to real-world issues like voting and medical ethics. The goal is to help students learn how to discern through questions that come up in everyday life.

Chou also recently redrafted the class so when the second edition of “Think Biblically: Recovering a Christian Worldview” is released, it will become the new textbook for the course.
